Oh, I post on both, too. For different sets of readers, exactly. But the majority of my current fic is M or above and it does violate the terms. And I would just edit it for ff.net, but…sometimes I do manage to sneak plot points (or at least a chunk of character development) in my smut.
Ah, yeah. That is a problem. I’ve done what you suggest - I just edit it out. Either the whole scene fades to black once clothes come off, or if there are plot thingies that need to happen, I just tone it all down and don’t mention specific body parts other than hands and necks and things. :D It’s a bit of a pain … BUT I also post a message at the bottom of those chapters (and then I link to the chapters on my FF.net profile page), saying that the explicit version is available at AO3, and a substantial number of readers have made the jump and read at least the explicit chapters at AO3. In a way, I don’t mind doing both versions; I’ve also posted notices at AO3 saying that there are “tamer” versions at FF.net, so if there’s anyone who would be more comfortable with a less explicit version, that option is also available. But yeah, it is somewhat more effort.
