Oh, I post on both, too. For different sets of readers, exactly. But the majority of my current fic is M or above and it does violate the terms. And I would just edit it for ff.net, but…sometimes I do manage to sneak plot points (or at least a chunk of character development) in my smut.

Ah, yeah. That is a problem. I’ve done what you suggest - I just edit it out. Either the whole scene fades to black once clothes come off, or if there are plot thingies that need to happen, I just tone it all down and don’t mention specific body parts other than hands and necks and things. :D It’s a bit of a pain … BUT I also post a message at the bottom of those chapters (and then I link to the chapters on my FF.net profile page), saying that the explicit version is available at AO3, and a substantial number of readers have made the jump and read at least the explicit chapters at AO3. In a way, I don’t mind doing both versions; I’ve also posted notices at AO3 saying that there are “tamer” versions at FF.net, so if there’s anyone who would be more comfortable with a less explicit version, that option is also available. But yeah, it is somewhat more effort.

STOP THE PRESSES!

Did Fanfiction.net just change their font? I swear the site looks different to me, but maybe it’s my imagination, because the thought of FF.net changing ANYTHING is so very, very strange! I’m pretty sure they have had the same font since the dawn of time (T. Rex New Roman).

Is anything else different? (Like maybe we can strikethrough fucking text now? Probably that’s too much to ask). Or maybe it really is my imagination?

Imagine your OTP exploring a new environment, whether it be a foreign country or even ancient ruins. Person A spends their time wandering curiously, studying every little detail and trying to decipher and figure everything out while Person B just roams aimlessly trying to figure a way out,…

Okay … so I have an excerpt from “Unshaken by the Darkness” that fits this prompt reasonably well. Except it’s more of a “Friendship OT3” at this time - nothing romantic. But definitely showing the different approach each person has to exploring the ruins. Loghain, Maric and Rhianna Cousland (age 12). It’s also a little bit spooky, so maybe can be considered a Halloween offering as well. Enjoy! :)

14 Drakonis, 9:25 Dragon

Less than an hour after leaving Highever Castle, Loghain, Maric and Rhianna arrived at the ruins: a square five-story keep flanked by the two remaining sides of the inner wall that once enclosed a central courtyard. Not far from the keep stood the remains of a guard tower. An ancient dovecote crumbled at the opposite end of the courtyard.

"This is Barr na Driseig," Rhianna explained. "At least that’s what the Alamarri called it in the old tongue. We call it Thornhill in Fereldan. It was built more than a thousand years ago, back before the ages were named, or Andraste was born. At least five hundred years before Highever Castle was built in the Divine Age."

The trio dismounted, and with Rhianna leading the way, they passed through an archway in one of the remaining walls, and climbed the stone steps to the first floor of the tower.

"Father told me that originally, there weren’t permanent steps leading up to this door," Rhianna began. "There were just stairs made of wood, which could be pulled inside if the keep were under attack, so enemies couldn’t just walk into the tower."

Inside, they explored the upper floors, each of which had been divided into varying numbers of rooms. On the first floor, there was a kitchen, with a round, vented oven built into one wall, and a pantry lined with stone shelves. Up a spiraling staircase, the second level was a single large, open space, which had probably been used as a banquet hall.

"Ooh, look!" she exclaimed when she saw a hole cut through the floor, and covered by an iron grate. "It’s a murder hole, isn’t it? For pouring hot oil on enemies who invaded the keep?" She turned to Loghain. "Do you think the people who lived here ever lit any invaders on fire?"

ARGH! Is it true that there is no way to do a strikethrough in text at FF.net? (Like this?). This is going to make my life very difficult for the next few chapters of “Unshaken!” GRRRRARGGHHHHHHH. Assuming this is true (and there hasn’t been some new feature rolled out recently that I just can’t find), does anyone have a suggestion for a way to work around this? Is there some convention for writing in strikethroughs manually, like using brackets or bolding or something? They’re sort of CRUCIAL to my story (the next chapters are meant to be letters being written back and forth between two characters), and I don’t want to just eliminate them, but I also don’t want it to be confusing or clunky or distracting. Suggestions? Please? HALP!!!!

I recommend reading it at AO3, as I’m able to add supplemental materials there. There is artwork, and eventually there will also be maps and mp3s of “Rhianna” (aka me) singing various Ferelden songs that fit into the storyline. Plus, it’s so much prettier at AO3. But it’s also up at ff.net, if that is your site of preference.
